Understanding Risk and Protective Factors and Their Role in Prevention

The purpose of this course is to introduce risk and protective factors, the science behind them, and how they can be used in prevention planning in your community.

Goals

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize why risk and protective factors have a role in strategic prevention planning.
  2. Identify the science behind risk and protective factors.
  3. Describe how risk and protective factors contribute to youth's negative and positive outcomes.

Penn State is a Pennsylvania Department of Education non-credit Act 48 approved provider. Upon successful completion, participants can earn 0.75 hours toward fulfilling their Act 48 requirements by participating in this course and completing all activities. Be sure to complete the evaluation at the end of this course and indicate if you seek Act 48 credits in your learner profile.
